Chapter 30 is a different pot of money from Post-9/11. Some people can use one, some can choose. A school that only knows Chapter 33 will leave money on the table.
Who it is usually for.
People who paid into MGIB and have a qualifying discharge.
What to have in hand.
- Proof you paid the $1,200 MGIB reduction if applicable
- DD-214
Moves.
- Apply on VA.gov and ask which chapter you actually hold.
- Compare monthly rates to Post-9/11 for your school.
- Only then let the school certify a term.
Timing hint: Same COE pipeline as other education benefits.
