Benefits Delivery at Discharge (BDD)

File 180–90 days before separation so a rating can be waiting when you take the uniform off.

BDD is a calendar, not a different benefit. Miss the 90-day mark and you file as a veteran after ETS. Start while your military treatment record is still easy to pull.

Who it is usually for.

Active duty, Guard, or Reserve within 180 to 90 days of separation or retirement.

What to have in hand.
  • Upcoming separation date
  • Service treatment records
  • List of conditions to claim
Moves.
  1. Confirm you are inside the 180–90 day window.
  2. List every condition you will claim.
  3. File the BDD claim on VA.gov.
  4. Complete VA exams before you separate.

Timing hint: Window is 180–90 days before ETS.

Shield 2 Storm does not file this claim and does not decide eligibility. Official rules live on the page above. Use an accredited representative if you will file.
