How to file a disability claim without getting lost

Evidence first, then the form. An accredited VSO if you want someone in the chair with you.

  1. Write the conditions you will claim before you open VA.gov. A vague “knees and back” claim is how exams get thin.
  2. Pull service treatment records and any civilian records that show the same condition after service.
  3. File on VA.gov or sit with an accredited VSO. Do not pay a stranger a percentage of your rating.
  4. After you file, watch the claim on VA.gov. A second claim for the same issues usually slows you down.
